The Shakespeare Conference: SHK 19.0490 Wednesday, 20 August 2008 From: David Evett <d.evett@csuohio.edu> Date: Monday, 18 Aug 2008 12:54:28 -0400 Subject: 19.0476 An Image in Greenblatt's _Hamlet in Purgatory_ Comment: Re: SHK 19.0476 An Image in Greenblatt's _Hamlet in Purgatory_ I'm far from my books, so can't give you any particular references, but I think the image of blood flowing from the wound in Christ's side into a chalice is quite common in late medieval art. You might even find versions of the ironic chalice-cauldron semi-homology.
