SHAKSPER 2008: Iago and the Joker
From: Hardy M. Cook (editor@SHAKSPER.NET) Date: 08/13/08
The Shakespeare Conference: SHK 19.0463 Wednesday, 13 August 2008 From: Aaron Azlant <azlant@gmail.com> Date: Thursday, 31 Jul 2008 17:03:55 -0400 Subject: 19.0450 Iagogo Comment: Re: SHK 19.0450 Iagogo Speaking of Iago, and risking a hefty tangent, does anybody know if there's been any discussion about his echoes in the character of the Joker in the new Batman movie? Now that you're done laughing, I'll just offer this: the writers behind this Joker seem to be both familiar with Auden's essay and to have designed the character as an over determined, ultimately motiveless malignity. Does this sound plausible to anybody else? In all of the discussion over the new movie, I haven't heard anybody present it yet. _______________________________________________________________ S H A K S P E R: The Global Shakespeare Discussion List Hardy M.
