Alas, a sad loss. I still remember a very genial lunch in 1996 at Mory's
in New Haven in his company and that of Louis Martz and Claude Rawson.
We shall all miss this great scholar, completely unassuming and wearing
his scholarship very lightly.

Thank you for this sad news. I shall always be grateful to G.K. Hunter
for his design of the University of Warwick English course, (which I
took in the late 1970s/early 1980s) structured generically (the epic in
the first year, the novel in the second, and drama in the third, with of
course Shakespeare then too). It was a brilliant conception, and has
influenced my thinking and understanding of literature ever since.

Tom, thanks very much for letting us know. I sure wish George, or even a
very distant facsimile, had been my teacher or supervisor. He was the
best of mentors, referees, hosts, and guests.

Cheers,
Herb
