SHAKSPER 2008: Shakespeare 24
From: Hardy M. Cook (editor@SHAKSPER.NET) Date: 04/11/08
The Shakespeare Conference: SHK 19.0219 Friday, 11 April 2008 From: Terence Hawkes <terence.hawkes@btinternet.com> Date: Friday, 11 Apr 2008 16:26:00 +0100 Subject: 19.0212 Shakespeare 24 Comment: Re: SHK 19.0212 Shakespeare 24 John Webb's account of "Shakespeare 24" allows an immediate raising of the spirits. The spectacle in which "60 youth groups will stage 30 and 45 minute adaptations of Shakespeare's plays . . . Performances will take place in languages as diverse and varied as the participants themselves. Youth groups will produce their own interpretations of Shakespeare, which may include the use of local dance, music, and performance art forms" -these are surely concepts to make the heart leap. Those who allowed the beauty of the recent 'speechless' Macbeth must look once more to their standards. "Shakespeare 24" and its "performance art forms" will carry all before them. As to the link with Facebook, it tends to take the breath away. T.
