Subject:	A Pedagogical Question

Colleagues:

This semester, I decided to change the history play I teach from RICHARD
III to HENRY V. I had only taught HENRY V once before, as part of a
short course on the second tetralogy, and in that context, I found the
play fairly easy to teach. But in the context of a survey of
Shakespeare's plays, I was flummoxed.

What do you teach when you teach HENRY V in a survey of Shakespeare's
plays? (If it will help to respond, the other plays I have taught so far
are TAMING OF THE SHREW, ROMEO AND JULIET, MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM,
MERCHANT OF VENICE, and after HENRY V, JULIUS CAESAR.)
