C. Bradley's _Shakespearean Tragedy_ is available for download or online reading in ascii or HTML at Project Gutenberg (http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/16966). Cantrell recommended "All of Gurr". Gurr's "William Shakespeare The Extraordinary Life of The Most Successful Writer of All Time" is quite different from most other books, in that it is based around some 300 colour photos of reconstructions of scenes from Shakespeare's life. There's not much about the plays themselves, but the book makes the story of Shakespeare's life very accessible to children. William Godshalk wrote "Some rare and used book dealers are asking $35 for a paperback copy of A. C. Bradley's Shakespearean Tragedy, a 'must' for school children." You can get that book through Amazon new, or second-hand (through Amazon) for 50p (1 dollar!). And what about "The Oxford Companion to Shakespeare", a substantial encyclopedia. You could consider buying the complete set of BBC Shakespeare plays on DVD, though at around 160 dollars for the entire set, that would knock quite a hole in your budget - do others think that investment would be worth it. _______________________________________________________________ S H A K S P E R: The Global Shakespeare Discussion List Hardy M.
