Michael Long, THE UNNATURAL SCENE (Methuen, 1975) has a great treatment 
of social codes, negotiations, and traumatic incapacities in OTHELLO. If 
you have any trouble finding the text I'll gladly snail-mail a copy of 
his chapter.
