The old series was almost uniformly deadly and dull, one of those attempts at "basic" Shakespeare that sets out not to offend anybody's sensibility and ends up a monumental turn-off for a new generation. That Mendes will be responsible for the new series is a good sign. (Rose petals, anybody?) [2]----------------------------------------------------------------- From: John Briggs <john.briggs4@ntlworld.com> Date: Sunday, 25 Nov 2007 14:02:18 -0000 Subject: 18.0769 Complete Shakespeare on BBC Comment: Re: SHK 18.0769 Complete Shakespeare on BBC >"BBC to Air All 37 Shakespeare Plays" I asked this question when the RSC made a similar announcement a year or so back, and didn't get an answer: By which count do you arrive at 37 plays? (If it includes both "Pericles" and "Two Noble Kinsmen" perhaps they count as half-each... The complete BBC Shakespeare DVD collection claims 38 plays: but they include "Pericles" and "Henry V, Pts I & II".)
