SHAKSPER 2007: Wooster Hamlet
From: Hardy M. Cook (editor@SHAKSPER.NET) Date: 11/13/07
The Shakespeare Conference: SHK 18.0764 Tuesday, 13 November 2007 From: Dan Venning <daniel.venning@gmail.com> Date: Friday, 9 Nov 2007 11:53:35 -0500 Subject: 18.0755 Wooster Hamlet Comment: Re: SHK 18.0755 Wooster Hamlet Bob Projansky notes "And it's not billed as "The Wooster Group's Statement About Theatrical Art." It's billed as Hamlet by William Shakespeare." At least when I went, it was NOT billed as "Hamlet by William Shakespeare." The program cover from the St. Ann's Warehouse production has it as: "The Wooster Group: Hamlet." The web site for the Public Theater bills the production as "The Wooster Group's Hamlet," NOT "William Shakespeare's Hamlet." I think this is a crucial difference. While the text is Shakespeare's, in this case, the theatrical even is not.
