Subject:	Portia and Shylock as "Others"

I seem to recall a discussion some years ago of an essay that argued
that Portia is as much an "other" as Shylock is in _The Merchant of
Venice_. I'm afraid that search as I can, I can find neither the
original SHAKSPER discussion nor the essay. Could anyone help me out?

Thanks,
David
