The Shakespeare Conference: SHK 18.0352 Thursday, 7 June 2007 From: Tanya Gough <yorick@bardcentral.com> Date: Wednesday, 6 Jun 2007 23:37:03 -0400 (EDT) Subject: Stratford Festival 2008 Rumours From today's article in the Toronto Star: "All's well that ends well as Stratford returns to its roots" Jun 06, 2007 04:30 AM Richard Ouzounian After an opening week in which its Shakespearean productions were far from its shining hour, one takes pleasure in reporting that the Stratford Festival's incoming regime seems intent on placing the work of the Bard front and centre in its first season. The Star has learned that all four shows on the flagship Festival Theatre stage next season will be written by William Shakespeare. Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, The Taming of the Shrew and All's Well That Ends Well are expected to make up the playbill at the 1,826-seat venue responsible for the lion's share of festival revenue. This can be taken as a solid sign that the festival is returning to its classical roots and away from the model of more recent years, in which multiple musicals and family-styled adaptations like To Kill a Mockingbird were allowed to dominate the schedule.
