The Shakespeare Conference: SHK 17.1103 Thursday, 21 December 2006 From: John Mahon <JMahon@iona.edu> Date: Wednesday, 20 Dec 2006 15:26:40 -0500 Subject: 17.1094 CGI Shakespeare Comment: RE: SHK 17.1094 CGI Shakespeare <http://uk.gizmodo.com/2006/12/14/shakespeare_tests_computer_gen.html> >Antony's "all is lost" soliloquy from A&C (4.12) has been rendered by >CGI (computer-generated imaging) artists to challenge their skills with >dramatic characters and in particular facial expressions. Here's the >Gizmodo-UK squib, which links to the 2:12 YouTube video. I thought the >scene too dark (probably covers errors well) but Antony's movement, >though limited, was realistic. I guess the speech was not machine-generated >but I didn't recognize the actor. Thanks, Al, for sharing this link. It seemed to me that the figure was obviously computer-generated-particularly disconcerting were his hands, too large, whenever he moved them, for the rest of him. I would assume that the voice is also machine-generated: the "realism" of some of the voices one encounters on telephone calls suggests that this Antony's voice is as machine-generated as the rest of him. My, but he speaks slowly!
