The Shakespeare Conference: SHK 17.1019 Saturday, 18 November 2006 From: Joseph Egert <quixote46@hotmail.com> Date: Thursday, 16 Nov 2006 20:48:30 +0000 Subject: 17.1008 The Archbishop Wasn't There? So Forth. Comment: RE: SHK 17.1008 The Archbishop Wasn't There? So Forth. I wholeheartedly agree with Bruce Young and "Joe Egan" in disputing Larry Weiss' overly broad contention that "Waging aggressive war was not offensive in the 15th Century..." As for Shakespeare's own sympathies, let his BOY, disappointed by Pistol's hollow bravado, have the last word (IV.4): "I did never know so full a voice issue from so empty a heart..." Is Pistol then the bloodless mirror of his Christian king? Joe Egert _______________________________________________________________ S H A K S P E R: The Global Shakespeare Discussion List Hardy M.
