The former, her version, might conceivably refer to a particular big fish; the latter, the version in Q and F1 (modernised), cannot. [2]------------------------------------------------------------- From: John Drakakis <john.drakakis@stir.ac.uk> Date: Friday, 24 Mar 2006 09:47:08 -0000 Subject: 17.0205 "hindered me a million" Comment: RE: SHK 17.0205 "hindered me a million" I think Hardy's that your stance is eminently reasonable. It is up to members of the list, surely, to familiarise themselves with current debates concerning Shakespeare, and thus exercise a modicum of self-control which will have the effect of saving you time (which I think is important), and adopting a responsible attitude to other readers. Some degree of self-consciousness about what we all do when we engage with relevant issues would not be a bad thing. It wouldn't stifle debate, nor would it preclude flights of wit that have from time to time provided entertainment for us all. Nor would it preclude the posing of questions at various levels of engagement with the texts of Shakespeare and his contemporaries. As I see it this has nothing to do with elitism or any other of the allegations that the reactionary thought-police invoke to justify their thoroughly egotistic excesses. To those who would inflict their craziness upon us all I would ask them to ponder the question of whether they have the right (or indeed the freedom)to waste the time of others.
