SHAKSPER 2005: Making King John a Play Worth Watching
From: Hardy M. Cook (editor@shaksper.net) Date: 08/30/05
The Shakespeare Conference: SHK 16.1424 Tuesday, 30 August 2005 From: Scot Zarela <goscot@envirocitizen.com> Date: Monday, 29 Aug 2005 10:47:01 -0700 Subject: 16.1406 Making King John a Play Worth Watching Comment: Re: SHK 16.1406 Making King John a Play Worth Watching Maybe this is the right time to mention Penelope Fitzgerald's novel _At Freddie's_, about a school for child actors, in London, the 1960s: part of the action turns on a production of "King John", which appears to be a popular success, and to have been put on with every expectation of success. Unless the author is giving play to a vein of fantasy, or otherwise reporting contrary to fact, perhaps the "unpopularity" of "King John" is a very recent phenomenon, or an American one only. In any case, I can't find that _At Freddie's_ has ever been mentioned on Shaksper before. It's a delightful novel. -- Scot _______________________________________________________________ S H A K S P E R: The Global Shakespeare Discussion List Hardy M.
