SHAKSPER 2005: Reworkings
From: Hardy M. Cook (editor@shaksper.net) Date: 07/29/05
The Shakespeare Conference: SHK 16.1259 Friday, 29 July 2005 From: John-Paul Spiro <johnpaulspiro@hotmail.com> Date: Thursday, 28 Jul 2005 14:35:58 -0400 Subject: 16.1252 Reworkings Comment: RE: SHK 16.1252 Reworkings I don't know if it's been noticed before, but Orson Welles' "Touch of Evil" (1958) has a lot of overlap with "Othello." The recent "Ten Things I Hate About You" is a reworking of "The Taming of the Shrew." In the British television series "Blackadder II," the episode entitled "Head" shares plot elements with "Measure for Measure," while "Bells" takes from "Twelfth Night." "The Godfather" has elements of "King Lear" but structurally it is more similar to "1 Henry IV." "The Godfather Part II" has loose connections to "Macbeth." _______________________________________________________________ S H A K S P E R: The Global Shakespeare Discussion List Hardy M.
