Subject: A Knock on Rylance and the Globe

Critic Hannah Betts delivers outgoing Globe director Mark Rylance a kick
in the pants as a valedictory in The Times: "Who says that Rylance is
golden?" She calls the latest Globe Pericles "a (loosely) Shakespearean
/My Big Fat Greek Wedding/, only considerably less tasteful." It goes on
at http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,1072-1649490,00.html In
passing she defends the man from Stratford: "Shakespeare's modest
background marked him out as precisely the sort of young buck who made
it big on the Elizabethan literary scene."

Sometimes I get a little frightened when browsing the British press. Why
is it more vicious than American media?

Cheers,
Al Magary
