SHAKSPER 2005: What was Elizabeth I's voice like?
From: Hardy M. Cook (editor@shaksper.net) Date: 05/01/05
The Shakespeare Conference: SHK 16.0840 Sunday, 1 May 2005 From: JD Markel <tutscatluxor@yahoo.com> Date: Friday, 29 Apr 2005 19:09:07 -0700 (PDT) Subject: What was Elizabeth I's voice like? What was Elizabeth I's voice like? In that I mean, what was the quality of her voice? Was it good or bad? Contemporaneously described at all? There are plenty of praises and over-praises of her beauty, erudtion, and so on. I found nothing about her voice. This is a matter which has arisen in my research. I ask forum members here for ideas, direction, even speculation on this matter. FYI one Elizabeth authority suggested to me a good place to start would be the dispatches of the Scots ambassador Maitland, so for one I would like to talk with any persons familiar with Maitland and his papers. _______________________________________________________________ S H A K S P E R: The Global Shakespeare Discussion List Hardy M.
