SHAKSPER 2005: A Claudius Question
From: Hardy M. Cook (editor@shaksper.net) Date: 03/14/05
The Shakespeare Conference: SHK 16.0475 Monday, 14 March 2005 From: Bill Arnold <barnold_pb@yahoo.com> Date: Friday, 11 Mar 2005 19:21:05 -0800 (PST) Subject: 16.0465 A Claudius Question Comment: Re: SHK 16.0465 A Claudius Question Julia Griffin writes, "Raging over Claudius, snarling against women: Dr. Arnold, is it possible that you need to distance yourself a little from this play?" Well, it ain't Dr., OK? And, I ain't and weren't raging. But, hey, I like a good controversy as much as any misguided feminist. Obviously, those who misread me also misread the play. Any woman who can excuse Claudius for killing his brother in the name of love with the former Queen needs her head shrunk. Such misguided values are sexist, and I am surprised educated SHAKSPEReans cannot read those tea leaves themselves!
