SHAKSPER 2005: A Claudius Question
From: Hardy M. Cook (editor@shaksper.net) Date: 02/24/05
The Shakespeare Conference: SHK 16.0378 Thursday, 24 February 2005 From: Abigail Quart <aquart@worldnet.att.net> Date: Wednesday, 23 Feb 2005 17:59:53 -0500 Subject: 16.0371 A Claudius Question Comment: RE: SHK 16.0371 A Claudius Question Bill, Claudius usurped the throne from his brother, not his nephew. What's clear in the play is that the king was elected, not guaranteed by primogeniture. Laertes makes a push to grab the throne of Denmark, but Hamlet does not. Neither does he act entitled to it. His concern is about his father's murder, not the government of Denmark. _______________________________________________________________ S H A K S P E R: The Global Shakespeare Discussion List Hardy M.
