SHAKSPER 2005: A Claudius Question
From: Hardy M. Cook (editor@shaksper.net) Date: 02/21/05
The Shakespeare Conference: SHK 16.0346 Monday, 21 February 2005 From: Stephen C. Rose <renewal2@yahoo.com> Date: Sunday, 20 Feb 2005 10:27:15 -0800 (PST) Subject: 16.0326 A Claudius Question Comment: Re: SHK 16.0326 A Claudius Question Seems to me this is just another aspect of Hamlet being a play, a suspension of disbelief. More like a dream. Claudius's kingship is rather validated by Gertrude's cottoning to him. Crazy in real life. Reasonable here. Ghost crazy in real life. OK here. We don't get too far if we do not allow ourselves to run as free as WS did. It's a story.
