Subject: Welcome to SHAKSPER: The Electronic Shakespeare Conference
Dear SHAKSPERean,
Welcome, as of today, you have been added to SHAKSPER, The Electronic
Shakespeare Conference, under the user-id to which this message has been
sent.
If you are joining SHAKSPER for the first time, you should begin by
acquainting yourself with the “culture” of the list. One way to do this
is by visiting the SHAKSPER web site at www.shaksper.net and having a
look at some of the past discussions and resources available to you,
including a very powerful search engine that enables you to query the
entire SHAKSPER archives since the list’s inception in 1990. You should
also send the following list of one-line commands to
listserv@shaksper.net, leaving the subject line blank:
GET LISTSERV COMMANDS
GET SHAKSPER ANNOUNCE
GET SHAKSPER LOG0502A
GET SHAKSPER LOG0502B
GET SHAKSPER LOG0502C
In return, you will receive the following introductory files:
1. A brief list of LISTSERV commands for SHAKSPER.
2. The SHAKSPER Announcement to share with others who may be
interested in joining SHAKSPER.
3. A list of Shakespeare-related sites on the Internet.
4. A number of recent logbooks of SHAKSPER. These logs will give
you a sense of the sort of discourse that takes place on
SHAKSPER and the direction that discussion threads often
take.
These files will arrive as E-MAIL and can be retrieved from the SHAKSPER
file server at any time should you ever require updated or additional
copies (see LISTSERV COMMANDS for further information about the file
server and its use.) The files may also be read at the SHAKSPER website
-- www.shaksper.net -- should you choose to do so.
If you have questions, please contact me.
Once again, welcome to SHAKSPER!
Yours,
Hardy M. Cook (Editor)
