SHAKSPER 2004: Remake of The Manchurian Candidate
From: Hardy M. Cook (editor@shaksper.net) Date: 12/09/04
The Shakespeare Conference: SHK 15.2071 Thursday, 9 December 2004 From: Richard Burt <rburt@english.ufl.edu> Date: Wednesday, 8 Dec 2004 08:59:10 -0500 Subject: Remake of The Manchurian Candidate Scott Newstrom has drawn my attention to a brief moment when we see a poster of Paul Robeson as Othello in the remake of The Manchurian Candidate (in which Korea is replaced with Iraq). I can't think of any political thrillers that make use of Shakespeare. Frederic Jameson has an excellent analysis of the 1970s political thriller in his book, The Geopolitical Aesthetic. _______________________________________________________________ S H A K S P E R: The Global Shakespeare Discussion List Hardy M.
