Subject:        Shakespeare References in Films (USSR)

In the 1966 Russian film "Beregis Avtomobilia", which might as well be
translated "Automobile Thief" to chime with DeSica's "Bicycle Thief"
(with which it has almost nothing else in common), the comic-hero is a
thief and also an actor rehearsing to play Hamlet.  The Inspector
assigned to the case likewise has an interest in the arts, and he is
cast as Laertes in the same production.  They duel.
