SHAKSPER 2004: Question on Measure for Measure
From: Hardy M. Cook (editor@shaksper.net) Date: 09/29/04
The Shakespeare Conference: SHK 15.1780 Wednesday, 29 September 2004 From: Colin Cox <colin@willandcompany.com> Date: Tuesday, 28 Sep 2004 08:14:09 -0700 Subject: 15.1771 Question on Measure for Measure Comment: Re: SHK 15.1771 Question on Measure for Measure As for Juliet Capulet, since she is likened to a "rich jewel," Be careful with that one it is a "rich jewel" but "it's on an Ethiope's ear." I think this refers to Juliet's candela rating. For the scientifically minded. the candela's old definition was: the intensity of 1/600 000 square meter of a "black body" (a perfect radiator of energy) at the temperature of freezing platinum (2042 K) and a pressure of 1 atmosphere. The candela's new definition is: the luminous intensity of a light source producing single-frequency light at a frequency of 540 terahertz (THz) with a power of 1/683 watt per steradian, or 18.3988 milliwatts over a complete sphere centered at the light source. (The frequency of 540 THz corresponds to a wave length of approximately 555.17 nanometers (nm); normal human eyes are more sensitive to the yellow-green light of this wavelength than to any other.) Romeo's 20/20 is as normal as the rest of us mere mortals. _______________________________________________________________ S H A K S P E R: The Global Shakespeare Discussion List Hardy M.
