On the gender composition of Shakespeare's audience, the two texts I've
found most helpful are Andrew Gurr's book, Playgoing in Shakespeare's
London (See especially  Appendix 1, "Playgoers 1567-1642") and
Richard Levin's article, "Women in the Renaissance Theatre Audience," SQ 40
(1989).
