The Shakespeare Conference: SHK 15.0828 Tuesday, 6 April 2004 From: John Webb <john_webb@cv81pl.freeserve.co.uk> Date: Tuesday, 6 Apr 2004 11:15:35 +0100 Subject: From Bard to Verse (BBC) BBC Three is the BBC's channel aimed at the teenage audience. This brief preview is from The Times: "Throughout this week BBC Three is repackaging Shakespeare for the MTV generation, with some of the Bard's works whittled down into sketches set in contemporary times. Before you think of dumbing down take a look at the stellar cast." Series website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcthree/tv/from_bard_to_verse.shtml The most catchy item in the first episode, IMO, was Delroy Atkinson, Ashley Campbell, Oliver Mason performing "It was a lover and his lass..." from As You Like It. Very "pop video". The program guide describes the performance as "performed as a rap". It was certainly different, though I'm not certain that it will make Number 1 in the charts. _______________________________________________________________ S H A K S P E R: The Global Shakespeare Discussion List Hardy M.
