SHAKSPER 2004: Ragner Lyth's Hamlet
From: Hardy M. Cook (editor@shaksper.net) Date: 02/24/04
The Shakespeare Conference: SHK 15.0509 Tuesday, 24 February 2004 From: Mike Jensen <jensensh@hotmail.com> Date: Saturday, 21 Feb 2004 10:07:31 -0800 Subject: Ragner Lyth's Hamlet My pal Bernice Kliman and I are up to no good. Step one is trying to find every reference to the Swedish film *Tragiska historien om Hamlet - Prins av Danmark, (1985),* directed by Ragner Lyth. Our goal is to show the distributor there is sufficient interest in English speaking nations to make it worth their while to make copies available. Steps two and three come later. So far we have five books by Herb Coursen: Watching Shakespeare on Television Shakespeare: The Two Traditions Shakespeare in Production Shakespearean Performance as Interpretation Shakespeare in Space: Recent Shakespeare Productions on Screen It is also listed briefly in Jo McMurty's *Shakespeare Films in the Classroom: A Descriptive Guide.* Ken Rothwell discusses it in both of his books, and of course it is in Bernice's great book on *Hamlet* performance, even supplying the image on the dust jacket. Bernice will check Jim Harner's wonderful bibliography, but we would like to find references or articles in other books and journals that may not turn up by searching Jim's database. Anything at all, from an article that considers it solely, to the merest mention in a footnote is worth knowing about. As many of you know, I seldom read SHAKSPER posts anymore, and so I usually ask that answers to my questions be sent to me off-list. Please feel free to do so, but since this may be of general interest, perhaps clicking the reply button would be best this time. I shall check SHAKSPER in a few days. Please accept our thanks in advance. All the best, Mike Jensen _______________________________________________________________ S H A K S P E R: The Global Shakespeare Discussion List Hardy M.
