The Atlantic article "Would Shakespeare Get Into Swarthmore?" is now
online at http://www.theatlantic.com/issues/2004/03/katzman.htm Short
answer: no, at least not based on his hypothetical SAT essay (a prose
version of "All the world's a stage").

Of course, it's a rigged competition, set up to show that "flair will
win no points; the highest-scoring essays will be earnest, long-winded,
and predictable." Hemingway, Gertrude Stein, and the Unabomber are also
graded. The Unabomber scored 6 out of 6, Hemingway was second with a 3.

A sidebar announces the "Rewrite Shakespeare" contest, cosponsored by
the Princeton Review (the SAT preparation folks):

Cheers,
Al Magary
