SHAKSPER 2004: UK Travel?
From: Hardy M. Cook (editor@shaksper.net) Date: 01/28/04
The Shakespeare Conference: SHK 15.0220 Wednesday, 28 January 2004 From: Marcia Eppich-Harris <marcia_eppo5@hotmail.com> Date: Tuesday, 27 Jan 2004 19:25:07 -0600 Subject: UK Travel? Hi Shakespeareans, My husband and I will be going to England in May, and I was wondering if any of you would have advice about making the most of our short time there (one week). I haven't bought my airline tickets yet because I'm curious as to whether or not I'll get a better deal closer to the departure date (May 17, methinks). However, I have already purchased tickets to see Macbeth in Stratford on May 20 -- shows where my priorities are -- and I'm going to try to get tickets to Much Ado at the Globe on May 23. My questions are: how much time should a diligent Shakespearean spend in Stratford? Are there any helpful/secret hints on Globe ticket purchasing? Where's the best place to sit in the Globe? (I have checked out the website, but I know pictures can't do it justice. I'm hoping people who have been there will lend further insight.) Should I buy my plane tickets now, or should I gamble and wait? If I'm mostly interested in all things Shakespeare, what part of London should I be trying to book a hotel in -- or does it matter? There are millions more questions I have, but I won't bother you all with a book-length email. Sorry for the naivety. This is the first overseas trip I've ever planned myself. When I went to Germany five years ago it was with a university group and I didn't plan a thing. I was thinking about going through a travel agent for the UK trip, but when I looked into it, I figured that I would be better off figuring out what to do on my own. . . but a little advice never hurts. If you'd like to reply off-list, please feel free at marcia_eppo5@hotmail.com. Sincere thanks, Marcia Eppich-Harris _______________________________________________________________ S H A K S P E R: The Global Shakespeare Discussion List Hardy M.
