From: Hardy M. Cook (editor@shaksper.net) Date: 01/14/04
The Shakespeare Conference: SHK 15.0097 Wednesday, 14 January 2004 From: Steve Roth <steve@steve-roth.com> Date: Tuesday, 13 Jan 2004 10:18:50 -0800 Subject: 15.0067 Marketing during Elizabethan and Jacobean Periods Comment: Re: SHK 15.0067 Marketing during Elizabethan and Jacobean Periods This is not a first resort, but I find it to be essential in understanding the topic (who *were* they marketing to?) and others probably won't mention it, so I will: Anne Jennalie Cook's The Privileged Playgoers of Shakespeare's London, 1576-1642. It's packed with primary-source information, cogent interpretation, and strongly supported conclusions. It is also, blessedly, an almost completely "theory"-free zone. Here's to highly motivated undergraduates.
