SHAKSPER 2003: Belatedness of Hamlet
From: Hardy M. Cook (editor@shaksper.net) Date: 12/23/03
The Shakespeare Conference: SHK 14.2429 Tuesday, 23 December 2003 From: Dana Wilson <dana_wilson@yahoo.com> Date: Monday, 22 Dec 2003 06:56:38 -0800 (PST) Subject: 14.2424 Belatedness of Hamlet Comment: Re: SHK 14.2424 Belatedness of Hamlet Harvey et al, >Quite a bit has been written in cinema scholarship >about 'profilmic' >space -- what takes place 'around' the frame; Yes, you might have caught my prev thread about "Shadow of the Vampire" starring John Malkovich and Willem Defoe on this subj. I hypothesized that the Rasputin story was merely a Russian translation of Hamlet, and that Murtenauer, drank in his German translation thus. >In a piece about HAMLET some >time ago, I mentioned >alternate scripts about what transpired during the >'blank space' of >Hamlet's sojurn with the pirates. Would you copy this to me off line? >The writer 's >hypothesis about Old >Norway inter alia is new to me. Has this been >abstracted from a paper, >and if so is it -- and similar material -- >available? I don't believe the info is public. A correspondent directed me to material re alienation and exile in the sonnets, and I abstracted this to my theory about the role of post-letters in alienation, and I used this to develop my theory of the cycles of reply in which context I explain the belatedness of Hamlet. I hope that makes sense. I can't stop for the OED today: I press too hard upon the edge.
