SHAKSPER 2003: Motherly Brag
From: Hardy M. Cook (editor@shaksper.net) Date: 12/22/03
The Shakespeare Conference: SHK 14.2417 Monday, 22 December 2003 From: Debra Murphy <dlmurphy601@comcast.net> Date: Friday, 19 Dec 2003 19:41:26 -0800 Subject: Motherly Brag Pardon a mother's BRAG, dear SHAKSPERians, but this is almost one for the books, and you must permit this parent to think, for a few moments at least, that she's raising her young'uns right, after all, if she is able to pass on such stellar news to like-minded folk such as yourselves, to whit: our Maire, aged 14 and a freshman in high school--and we're talking about a BIG high school, with a well-respected drama department (South Salem High School in Salem, OR)==has just been cast in the school production of HAMLET as... yikes, Himself. Yepper, Hamlet the Dane. Rehearsals begin straightaway after Christmas break for mid February performances. We are simply stunned. As soon as I heard the news--or at least as soon as I was once again capable of speech--I said to Maire, "Better start memorizing NOW, girl." I assure you, she doesn't get it from MY side of the family. I couldn't perform my way out of the proverbial paper bag. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all...
