I'm sure there is a good reason, an old folk song perhaps, but Harold it is. In his short essay at the end of the Burton Raffel annotated Hamlet, Yale (2003), Bloom states that Hamlet first loves "the image of authority, the dead father, and the object of the dead father's love, who is also the object of Claudius's love. When Hamlet matures, or returns fully to himself, he transcends the love of authority, and ceases to love at all ...
