From: Hardy M. Cook (editor@shaksper.net) Date: 12/16/03
The Shakespeare Conference: SHK 14.2375 Tuesday, 16 December 2003 From: Tanya Gough <yorick@bardcentral.com> Date: Monday, 15 Dec 2003 11:47:48 -0500 Subject: Slings and Arrows For Canadians who get the Movie Network on cable TV, there will be a Slings and Arrows marathon December 19-24. The 6 part series stars Paul Gross, Stephen Ouimette, and Martha Burns, and is set in the fictional town of New Burbage. The official site blurb is as follows: "Directed by Peter Wellington (Joe's So Mean To Josephine), SLINGS AND ARROWS is based in the fictional town of New Burbage where legendary theatrical madman Geoffrey Tennant (Paul Gross) returns to the New Burbage Theatre Festival - the site of his greatest triumph and most humiliating failure, to assume the Artistic Directorship after the sudden death of his mentor, Oliver Welles. When Geoffrey arrives he finds that Oliver is still there, in spirit anyway, and with his guidance (and often in spite of it) Geoffrey attempts to reconcile with his past while wrestling the Festival back from the marketing department. Despite a bitter leading lady, a clueless leading man, and a scheming General Manager, he manages to stage a remarkable production of Hamlet; the play that drove him mad." It's still too soon to expect a DVD release, but we're keeping out eyes open for it.
