SHAKSPER 2003: Up with the Lark
From: Hardy M. Cook (editor@shaksper.net) Date: 09/01/03
The Shakespeare Conference: SHK 14.1710 Monday, 1 September 2003 From: Graham Hall <spookywill@hotmail.com> Date: Sunday, 31 Aug 2003 13:29:22 +0000 Subject: Up with the Lark Rightly to be great is not to stir without great argument but greatly to find quarrel in a straw when honour's at the stake. Poor Tom's (14.1691) impertinent speculations and inaccurate delusions about my intentions and activities have the stamp of much defect and the devil of a puritan that he is he should be returned to Bedlam for a bit of the wrist slapping he wishes upon others. Dost thou think because thou art virtuous there shall be no more shapes to a tale? Pardon me, Sir, but you're bad company. Your tale is mouldy and your script is foolish. Go shake your ears and come with better music! My conundrum thoughts lay upon suchlike as A&C (TLN 902 onwards) and Tempest (TLN 1984 onwards) - substitute what you will - and they arose without any "side-slapping fol-de-rol sarcastic satire". "Nunclers", I would (!) imagine, lie in the catalogue of those who patronizingly opine what other folk's "first sentences should really read something like". And who patronizingly assume that the List has not the wit to work things out for itself. As it is, I did not seek to "excuse", or for that matter condemn, anyone for anything. Sneck up! Yours 'gainst mongrel dogs who preach.*** (See below), Graham Hall *** (Partly nicked from B. Dylan) _______________________________________________________________ S H A K S P E R: The Global Shakespeare Discussion List Hardy M.
