SHAKSPER 2003: Re: Shakespeare and Buffy

The Shakespeare Conference: SHK 14.1485 Tuesday, 22 July 2003 From: Anna Kamaralli <anna@belvoir.com.au> Date: Tuesday, 22 Jul 2003 11:14:50 +1000 Subject: Re: Shakespeare and Buffy While I don't have a pop-culture reference to add, Philip's post about Buffy and MoV made me stop to think about what a literate, and literary show it really is. Anyone who has ever enjoyed a musical should seek out the musical episode in series six (entitled "Once More, With Feeling"), with its huge range of clever references to Broadway gimmicks and styles. I mention it because the genesis of this episode, according to writer/director (and Stephen Sondheim's natural heir) Joss Whedon, lay in after-work evenings the cast and crew would spend at Whedon's home drinking tequila and reading Shakespeare aloud to one another. Here's to eclectic tastes! Anna. _______________________________________________________________ S H A K S P E R: The Global Shakespeare Discussion List Hardy M.
