The Shakespeare Conference: SHK 14.0157 Wednesday, 29 January 2003 From: Douglas Brooks <dbrooks@neo.tamu.edu> Date: Tuesday, 28 Jan 2003 10:49:06 -0600 Subject: CFP: Shakespeare Apocrypha (3/15/03; MLA San Diego) In conjunction with the theme of the 2005 issue of the Shakespeare Yearbook, "The Shakespeare Apocrypha" (co-edited with Ann Thompson), the journal will sponsor a special session at the upcoming Annual Convention of the MLA (San Diego, December 27-30, 2003). Since 1619, when Pavier and Jaggard included texts of A Yorkshire Tragedy and 1 Sir John Oldcastle in their collection of Shakespeare reprints, a number of plays have passed in and out of the Shakespeare canon. Other plays in the Shakespeare Apocrypha include Arden of Faversham, Locrine, Edward III, Mucedorus, Thomas Lord Cromwell, The London Prodigal, The Puritan, The Merry Devil of Edmonton, Fair Em, The Two Noble Kinsmen, The Birth of Merlin, and Sir Thomas More. Prospective papers may focus on individual plays or on more general issues. Please submit title and 250 word abstract of proposed paper - or proposed paper-along with a brief scholarly bio by March 15, 2003. Digital submissions as e-mail attachments in Word or Rich Text Format are preferred. Proposed papers must not exceed 8 pages Times New Roman 12 point. The Shakespeare Yearbook is a broadly based international annual of scholarship relating to Shakespeare, his time, and his impact on later periods. Maximum length for contributions is 35 double-spaced pages in Times New Roman 12 point. Citations should be formatted according to the Chicago Manual of Style. The name of the author/s should only appear in an accompanying cover letter. All essays are reviewed by two readers. Digital submissions in Word or Rich Text Format are welcome. Speakers at the MLA annual convention must be members of the Modern Language Association as of 1 April 2003. For more information or to submit a proposal contact Douglas A.
