I grow a'weary of the claim that *The Lion King* was based on *Hamlet*.
The plots do not significantly overlap.  Please, before making this
claim again, watch *TLK* and make a plot outline.  Read *Hamlet* and do
the same.  They have very little in common.

Just because a plot has an uncle trying to get a throne does not mean a
story is significantly based on *Hamlet*.  Does anyone know how this
idea began?

I might be a few days late on this, but in response to the question,
"Why hasn't Disney done Shakespeare?"  I wonder why this is even a
question worth asking.  Do we want Disney to "do" Shakespeare?  I
certainly do not want some watered down, moralized version of Hamlet or
The Tempest or any other play passed off as "kid friendly"-there's
enough of those out there anyway.

If Shakespeare is to be accessible to all ages then let's do that by
looking for modern adaptations and books/movies that address similar
themes and similar plot lines as the actual plays to which children can
relate or connect.  Maybe reading the plays to and with our children is
the better route rather than waiting for or relying on Disney to teach
it to our kids for us.

This is just my opinion as a teacher and grad student.
