SHAKSPER 2002: Montaigne, Florio, and Shakespeare
From: Hardy M. Cook (editor@shaksper.net) Date: 12/11/02
The Shakespeare Conference: SHK 13.2397 Wednesday, 11 December 2002 From: Roy Flannagan <Roy@gwm.sc.edu> Date: Tuesday, 10 Dec 2002 08:45:12 -0500 Subject: Montaigne, Florio, and Shakespeare This came up before on SHAKSPER-L, but is there anything to the rumor that Shakespeare was under the same Southampton roof as was Florio, and that Florio's wife has been proposed as a plausible candidate for the Dark Lady? Perhaps Florio's eccentric Italian dictionary should be plumbed for Shakespeare's knowledge of "choice Italian," as Hamlet puts it.
