What is the support for this? WS used "Percy" as the family name, as
did Holinshed ("Persie"). Smithson sounds too plebeian -- smith's son

Cri de guerre : Espérance et Percy
The reference to "Esperance in Dieu" is a later development in the17th
century associated to a name of a ship of 1632.
