SHAKSPER 2002: Edmund and Edgar
From: Hardy M. Cook (editor@shaksper.net) Date: 11/11/02
The Shakespeare Conference: SHK 13.2238 Monday, 11 November 2002 From: Roy Flannagan <roy@gwm.sc.edu> Date: Friday, 08 Nov 2002 10:53:37 -0500 Subject: Edmund and Edgar I was making the point in class yesterday that as he manipulates the good-hearted and trusting Edgar, Edmund acts like an older brother telling his younger what best to do, but, as my students quickly pointed out, Edmund is younger than Edgar. My students also asked if the illegitimate Edmund, were his dad to own him, still be out of an inheritance because of primogeniture (well, they didn't use that word, but they might have). In other words, does Edmund have two strikes against him? And why does he act like an older brother?
