SHAKSPER 2001: NYT Review of the Public's OTHELLO
From: Hardy M. Cook (editor@ws.bowiestate.edu) Date: 12/10/01
The Shakespeare Conference: SHK 12.2801 Monday, 10 December 2001 From: Bradley Berens <berens@earthlink.net> Date: Monday, 10 Dec 2001 06:39:42 -0800 Subject: NYT Review of the Public's OTHELLO Hi everybody, Today's New York Times has a well-written and, perhaps, conversation-stimulating review of the new production of Othello in it. To read things on the NYT website you must register, but it's free and worthwhile. Here's the URL: http://www.nytimes.com/2001/12/10/arts/theater/10OTHE.html My question: theatrically speaking, is it better to have a terrific actor playing Iago who overpowers the actor playing Othello, or should the two characters be evenly balanced at a lesser level? Which combination serves the play better? Which serves the audience better? Best, Brad _______________________________________________________________ S H A K S P E R: The Global Shakespeare Discussion List Hardy M.
