I've never watched the show but news accounts say the hostess is vicious
in her remarks.

Not a new phenomenon. There was the Algonquin Circle with Dorothy Parker
in the 1920's. The movie 'Ridicule' is all about cutting remarks in the
French court of Louis XVI.
