SHAKSPER 2001: Feathers
From: Hardy M. Cook (editor@ws.bowiestate.edu) Date: 03/21/01
The Shakespeare Conference: SHK 12.0676 Wednesday, 21 March 2001 From: Mike Jensen <mjensen@mayfieldpub.com> Date: Monday, 19 Mar 2001 16:27:44 -0800 Subject: Feathers I'm back from Ann Arbor where I enjoyed the RSC's new attempt at the first tetralogy, despite a few reservations. There is a motif in the productions I don't understand. Red and white feathers, corresponding to the colour of the roses, appear from time to time, usually descending from the ceiling, though not always. I am puzzled by their meaning. I looked for a pattern to their use to explain them, but it eluded me. Has anyone who has seen the show figured it out, or heard someone involved in the productions comment on the feathers? Thanks, Mike Jensen
