The Shakespeare Conference: SHK 12.0317 Friday, 9 February 2001 From: W. L. Godshalk <godshawl@email.uc.edu> Date: Thursday, 08 Feb 2001 15:20:41 -0500 Subject: 12.0311 "I would unstate myself . . ." Comment: Re: SHK 12.0311 "I would unstate myself . . ." Simon Morris suggests that (in King Lear 1 ii 96-98): "I would unstate myself to be in a due resolution" might be paraphrased: "I can't say that I have the resolution to frame the business." Let me suggest another paraphrase: "Were I to resolve the question, I would end up ustating myself, that is, driving myself crazy." The state alluded to is the little state of man. I offer this suggestion without the least bit of evidence. Yours, Bill Godshalk
