The Shakespeare Conference: SHK 11.2286 Monday, 10 December 2000 From: A. J. Hoenselaars <ton.hoenselaars@let.uu.nl> Date: Friday, 08 Dec 2000 16:16:40 +0100 Subject: 11.2247 The Filth and the Fury Comment: Re: SHK 11.2247 The Filth and the Fury "the larger cultural impact of punk in the U.K." Shakespeare and Punk have a relationship of long standing. Essential though not necessarily delightful reading is Gideon Sims' THE PUNK of the late 1970s, subtitled "the first ROMEO & JULIET with safety pins." If I remember correctly, this novel(ette) features a "concert" of the Sex Pistols, and David Bowie too makes a brief appearance. Ton Hoenselaars
