The Shakespeare Conference: SHK 11.1449 Monday, 7 August 2000. From: Mary Emily Anderson <maryemily@webtv.net> Date: Friday, 28 Jul 2000 07:25:57 -0700 (PDT) Subject: 11.1427 Swordplay Primer Comment: Re: SHK 11.1427 Swordplay Primer Ralph Faulkner, an old Hollywood fencing instructor who served as fencing double for many of the forties swashbucklers, had many delightful swordplay anecdotes about the Hollywood fencers-who did their own fencing and who used doubles and what was happening in the film. Although he was nearly blind when I met him in the early 80's, he still taught fencing by touch out of Faulkner Studios in Hollywood. A portion of his studio area had been converted to an Equity waiver theatre. Playwright Randy Ball was interviewing him with a plan to create a play about him. I don't know if that ever came to fruition before Ralph died. If it did, that might also provide some book material.
