From: Mike Jensen <mjensen@mayfieldpub.com> Date: Monday, 12 Jun 2000 08:39:00 -0700 Subject: Re: A Shrew Comment: SHK 11.1185 Re: A Shrew Well, it is hardly unusual for Mr. Stetner and I to disagree: >I'm sure many people will suggest Corambis for Polonius as quite as radical a change In fact, only one name is common to both A Shrew and The Shrew, Katherine. The locale is changed, and the dialogue is largely (completely?) rewritten. Even reasons given for some actions are different. Kate says she'll accept Ferando because it is time she married, a motivation Shakespeare did not supply. As I believe another pointed out, the reasons for wifely obedience at the end are entirely different. The changes between Q1 Hamlet and Q2/F are far less radical than those between A and The Shrew. Sorry for the long delay replying. I've been sick. Best, Mike Jensen
