Subject: "Toeing" Redux

In a recent Supreme Court case upholding a local ban on nude dancing,
City of Erie v. Pap's AM, 98-1161 (3/29/00), Justice Souter filed a
concurring opinion in which he said:

"I may not be less ignorant of nude dancing than I was nine years ago,
but I have come to believe a government must toe the mark more carefully
than I first insisted."

I think he meant "hew the line."
